- Invite your guests to a barnyard theme dress-up birthday gathering. Ask your guests to wear costumes related to the barnyard, such as a farmer, the farmer's wife, field hand or scarecrow, or animal costumes, such as cows, pigs, chickens and goats. Some more complex costume ideas can include a human bale of hay, stalk of wheat or corn.
- Host a birthday party in an actual barnyard. Set up picnic tables in an empty stable and string lights. Include decorations such as bales of hay, checkered tablecloths, and troughs full of ice and canned or bottled beverages. Consider having a square dance to kick off the party, or even a bobbing for apples contest. Make sure to inform guests of any special dress code and the condition of the land so they can wear appropriate clothing.
- Recreate a barnyard in your backyard. Bring in bales of hay, fence sections and even a few small animals, such as chickens, to establish the theme. For a children's birthday, hang colorful barnyard theme cut-outs from trees, bushes or fencing. Play animal related games such as Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Consider other games like potato sack races and short relay events. Serve friend chicken, corn on the cob, potato skins and other foods that can be created from fresh farm products.
- Consider bringing your guests on a field trip to an actual barnyard. Some farmers offer day tours of the farm life. Inquire about tractor pulls, hayrack rides and horseback riding. After the farm tour, bring your guests back to your venue of choice for refreshments. Include a barnyard theme cake and gifts, if possible.
