How to Cut Fields With Brush Cutters

    • 1). Walk through the field that you plan to cut and look for any hazardous objects like large rocks, bricks and wire. The brush cutter can become damaged or cause injury if it runs over any large or heavy debris. Wire can get entangled in the rotating blades and seriously damage the brush cutter.

    • 2). Cut down and remove any shrubs or yearling trees more than 2 inches in diameter at the base, using a chain saw or hand saw. Mark any stumps more than 2 inches tall with a marking flag in the ground, close to the stump. Also, mark any large boulders that you cannot remove, so you can easily see and avoid these areas.

    • 3). Walk behind the brush cutter, holding the handle firmly with both hands. Begin cutting your field in a systematic pattern to ensure good ground coverage. Start on one end of the field and continue to cut straight to the other end. Turn around and cut in the opposite direction next to your first pass, overlapping your first cut by four or five inches. This will ensure that you cut any stray pieces of brush that might have gone uncut. Continue this process until your field is clear.
