- 1). Download an iPod transfer shareware program to the desktop of the computer, for example, the 4Media iPod to Mac for a Mac or MediaWidget for a PC (see links in Resources). Double-click on the file once it has downloaded. Follow the menu commands to install the program onto the computer's hard drive. Restart the PC after the installation is completed.
- 2). Attach the iPod connector of the iPod transfer cable to the iPod. Plug the other end of the iPod transfer cable into a USB port on the computer. Wait for the icon of the iPod to appear on the computer's desktop.
- 3). Launch the iPod transfer shareware program by double-clicking its icon inside of the "Applications" folder if on a Mac or by selecting it from the "Start," "All Applications" pop-up menu if on a PC.
- 4). Click once on the icon of the iPod that is in the left column of the iPod transfer shareware program's main screen.
- 5). Click once on the folder in the center column of the iPod transfer shareware program's main screen that has the file you want to transfer in it.
- 6). Select the file you want to transfer to the computer's hard drive from the column that is to the right of the folder. Drag the file to the desktop of the computer. Wait as a progress bar appears and fills in. Quit the iPod transfer shareware program once the progress bar disappears.
- 7). Drag the icon of the iPod to the Trash (Mac) or right-click on it and select "Eject" from the pop-up menu (PC). Disconnect the iPod transfer cable from the iPod and from the USB port of the computer.
