- It's important to adhere strictly to the nutrient feeding schedule recommended by AeroGrow International. Specifically, your AeroGarden plants need to be fed the nutrient tablets that came with your kit every two weeks in order to thrive. In between feedings, store the nutrient tablets in your freezer. This will prevent moisture production and buildup on the inside of the tablet storage bags, which will result in eventual tablet decomposition.
- AeroGarden plants receive the majority of the light and warmth they need from the overhead grow light that is part of the equipment. Avoid placing AeroGarden plants such as lettuce and some herbs in direct sunlight on long, hot summer days. If you're growing leafy greens that prefer cooler climate conditions, you may want to place your AeroGarden in a shady, cooler area such as a garage, letting the grow light provide all of the light and warmth for the plants. Replace the light bulbs every six months, because their intensity gradually diminishes.
- The best type of water to use when hydrating your AeroGarden plants is distilled water. Hard, soft or chlorinated tap water can cause disease and kill the plants fairly quickly. Well water and spring water are also not recommended for healthy AeroGarden plant growth. Distilled water is effective at supplying growing hydroponic vegetation with the minerals it needs. Adding a tablespoon of Epsom salts to the AeroGarden water bowl will also help plant growth by boosting the plants' absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus.
- Keep the height of your adjustable AeroGarden grow light a couple of inches above the foliage of your tallest plants. If the grow light is directly over the leaves of your tallest plants, the light will be blocked from reaching other, lower parts of the plants and cause stifled growth. Standing above the AeroGarden unit and looking down at it is a good way to determine whether light is reaching as many plants as possible.
