- 1). Locate and turn off the electrical circuit breaker controlling the junction box you will be installing your outlet into. Remove the mounting screw from the front of the junction box and remove the cover. Pull the wires from the box and remove the wire nuts from the wires. Spread the wires out to make it easier.
- 2). Grip the end of the black wire in the tips of a pair of needle-nose pliers and bend it back on itself about 3/8 inch to create a small hook. Loosen the top screw on the outlet with the screwdriver and loop this small wire hook over it, so that the open end of the hook is wrapping clockwise around the screw. Tighten the screw with the screwdriver.
- 3). Twist a hook into the end of the white wire in the same way and wrap it around the bottom screw on the outlet. Tighten it with a screwdriver as well. Twist the end of the green ground wire and attach it to the green ground screw on your outlet, tightening it with the screwdriver.
- 4). Fit the outlet into the junction box and install the top and bottom mounting screws through the tabs on the outlet into the threaded holes in the box. Tighten the screws with the screwdriver. Position an outlet cover plate over the outlet and install the single, center mounting screw and tighten it. Restore the power at the main panel.
