- 1). Start on the end of your roof opposite the downspout and measure 1/2-inch down from the edge of the roof and make a mark on the house with a piece of white chalk. Measure the distance from one side of the house to the other and record the measurement. The gutters will be slanted 5/8-inch for every 10-feet of gutters.
- 2). Move to the other side of the roof where the downspout will be and measure down based on the length of the roof. For a 20-foot roof, measure down 1-1/4-inches plus the 1/2-inch from before. This will account for the slope when you are installing the gutters.
- 3). Snap a chalk line from one end of the house to the other so the gutters can be installed at the proper slope. Run a stud finder along the front of the house and locate all the studs. Mark their location with a pencil and install fascia brackets at each location with a drill and wood screws.
- 4). Set the gutter in the fascia brackets and rotate the gutter upward until its back end slips into the hooks at the top of the back of the brackets. Attach a drill bit to the power drill and drill at 3/16-inch hole above each fascia bracket. Secure the gutter to the bracket with a machine screw.
- 5). Snap an end cap on the end of the gutter. Slide a joiner piece over the first gutter and secure it in place with silicone sealant using a caulk gun. Install the second gutter just like the first was installed, sliding it into the joiner first and continue in the same manner until you reach the end of the house.
