- 1). Cut two rectangles out of your purse fabric for the purse body---each should measure 11 by 12 inches.
- 2). Cut two 11 by 12 inches pieces from the fabric you chose for the lining of your purse.
- 3). Cut a 4 by 24 inch strip from your purse fabric for the handle of the purse.
- 4). Cut two pieces of the iron-on fabric backing to 11 by 12 inches.
- 5). Iron the fabric backing onto the wrong side of your purse fabric by following the directions on the package.
- 6). Position a lining section to cover the backing on each purse section. Tack to hold in place if necessary. Sew the two sections of purse fabric together, inside out, along three sides, leaving one of the 11 inch sides open.
- 7). Hem the open edge of the purse by turning it down one quarter inch and then again one inch. This prevents the ragged edges from showing. Turn the purse right side out. Top stitch the hem down with a needle and coordinating thread.
- 8). Fold the fabric for the purse handle in half lengthwise, with right sides of the fabric together. Sew the long edges together.
- 9). Trim the excess fabric close to the seam edge and turn the tube carefully so that the fabric is right side out again by pinning a large safety pin to one end and inserting the closed safety pin into the tubing to reverse the fabric. Work the pin through the entire tube with your fingers as you gather the material. If needed, insert a pencil into the tube to help work the pin through the tube.
- 10
Turn the unfinished ends of the purse handle back into the tube about half an inch. - 11
Stitch the handles into the purse on either side and it is ready to go.
