- 1). Turn off the hot tub's jets and heaters and turn off the circuit breaker that controls the hot tub to eliminate the risk of electrical shock while you clean.
- 2). Look around the bottom edge of the hot tub for a round drain spigot.
- 3). Attach one end of a garden hose to the spigot. Place the other end of the garden hose where you want the water from the hot tub to drain.
- 4). Turn the knob attached to the drain spigot to open it and allow the water to flow from the hot tub through the garden hose. Once the water level is below the spigot, it will stop draining so expect a small amount of water to remain in the hot tub.
- 5). Use a wet/dry shop vacuum to remove the remaining water in the hot tub.
- 6). Remove the filter form the inside wall of your hot tub. The filter is usually round and you can remove it by twisting it counterclockwise.
- 7). Spray the filter with a garden hose to remove any debris or slime that has accumulated. Return the filter to the hot tub when it is clean.
- 8). Add 1/4 tsp. of chlorinating sodium dichlor granules to 5 gallons of water in a large bucket. You can find this disinfectant in pool or spa supply stores.
- 9). Scrub the inside of the hot tub with the sodium dichlor and water mixture and a sponge or a soft cloth. Wear gloves while you work as the sodium dichlor may cause skin irritation.
