- 1). Park your camper trailer on flat, hard ground. Place one wheel chock in front of and another behind the wheel on the opposite side of the side you're working on so that there is no movement in any direction (forward/backward).
- 2). Jack the trailer up on the side you're working on and lock the jack in place. Place the jack stands under the trailer for added support front and rear and lock in place.
- 3). Remove the rubber plug (if there is one) on the bottom of the brake backing plate to expose the slot where the star-shaped adjuster screw is located, so that you can insert your brake tool to adjust the brakes. Use your flashlight, if needed, to see the star shaped screw inside the slot.
- 4). Use your brake tool to turn the adjuster screw up or down to determine which way you need to turn the screw to tighten the brakes. While spinning the trailer wheel, adjust the screw until the wheel locks. Then back it off just enough that the wheel rotates or spins freely with no drag. Replace the rubber plug into the adjusting slot. Lower the trailer to the ground.
- 5). Repeat the step for the other wheel to insure that all brakes are adjusted and balanced. It may take several attempts of adjusting and testing before all brakes work as desired.
