- 1). Locate your GM vehicle's SPI sticker by checking a series of common locations, including the glove box, spare tire cover and driver's door. SPI stickers are usually small silver or white rectangles with black lettering.
- 2). Locate your vehicle's paint code on the SPI sticker. The codes are the numbers that directly follow "BC/CC U." BC stands for base coat. CC stands for clear coat. And U stands for upper, which may refer to trimming or other cosmetic options. Two-tone models will also have an "L" (lower) code.
- 3). Write down all of the color codes. You may not know which code refers to the color you need until you see the color on a chart or paint can. It's a good idea to have all of the codes on hand.
- 4). Visit an auto parts store and purchase the appropriate amount of paint.
