- 1). Open a garden sprayer and fill it with a post-emergent herbicide that contains trifloxysulfuron, sulfosulfuron or halosulfuron. Each is safe to use on St. Augustine grass. Refer to the herbicide packaging for the proper amount to put in the sprayer.
- 2). Add in the amount of water specified on the herbicide package, usually 1 gallon. Place the top on the garden sprayer and shake it gently to mix the two liquids.
- 3). Search your lawn of St. Augustine grass for globe sedge weed. Point the sprayer at the weed and pull the trigger to apply the herbicide until the weed is soaked and the liquid drips off of the leaves.
- 4). Spray all remaining globe sedge weeds with the herbicide mixture in the same manner.
- 5). Wait six to eight weeks after the first application of herbicide and examine the lawn for newly sprouted globe sedge weeds. Treat any that you find in the same manner as with the first application.
