- 1). Make sure you begin this job by turning off the power. The shock from a 110 volt electrical circuit won't kill a normal person, but it can sure scare you to death.
- 2). Take your screw driver and remove the cover from the light switch and set the cover and the screws aside until your ready to put them back on. Remove the screws holding the switch by unscrewing each screw alternately while pulling on the switch. This will relieve the wire pressure and make the job easier.
- 3). Pull it out enough to get a clear view of both sides and the back once the switch is free. Make a note of the position of each wire. This shouldn't be difficult as each switch usually only has three to five wires attached and one of them is usually the bare wire ground.
- 4). Make sure you can remember the position of all the wires, write them down if you think you need to, then loosen the screws holding the switch and remove the wires while you remove the switch. You may need to spread the ends to remove them, just remember to use the needle nose pliers to crimp them together again when you re-install the new one.
- 5). Install your new switch the same way you removed the old one and re-install the cover, then turn on the power. Check if the new switch works. Turn it on and see.
