- 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable, using a wrench to loosen the terminal nut. Starting with a cool engine, place a set of wheel chocks behind the rear wheels of the Grand Am. Lift the Pontiac on the driver side with an automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the car near the jacking point, and raise it to the frame.
- 2). Loosen the lug nuts on the front passenger-side wheel with a lug wrench, and remove the wheel. Remove the splash shield using a screwdriver. Drain the engine oil into a drain pan by opening the plug on the oil pan with a wrench.
- 3). Remove the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger using a wrench. Remove the flywheel inspection cover using a wrench to loosen the bolts. Remove the oil pan bolts using a socket and ratchet. Pull the oil pan from the engine. Scrape away any remaining gasket material using a scraper tool.
