- 1). Place the car jack underneath your Pontiac so that it is closer to the wheel on which you will be replacing the hub bearings. Raise your vehicle off the ground. Place a jack stand underneath the frame of your Pontiac for added support in case the car jack fails.
- 2). Use a lug wrench to loosen and then remove the lug nuts attached to the wheel. Lift the wheel away from the axle and place in a safe area.
- 3). Use a wrench to remove the mounting bolts that fix the brake caliper in place. Put a wooden block next to the brake caliper. Lift the caliper out of the bracket and place it on the wooden block at the side. This will prevent you from damaging the brake cable and leaking any brake fluid.
- 4). Remove the retaining nut and washer that hold the wheel hub in place using a wrench. Pull the hub away from the wheel assembly. If it is difficult to move, use a wooden mallet to knock it free. Slide the inner and outer bearings from the hub.
- 5). Check the surface of the bearings. If they contain any holes or marks, you need to discard them in the trash. Slide the new bearings into the wheel hub. Reattach the wheel assembly by following the removal steps in reverse.
