- 1). Build a wooden box frame using the two 8-by-1 1/2-inch boards and the two 1 1/2-inch square boards. Attach the pieces using wood glue and clamp them together for an hour to let the glue dry.
- 2). Attach one of the 8-by-2-inch plywood boards to the wooden box frame using wood glue and clamp the pieces together for an hour to let the glue dry.
- 3). Flip the box over so the plywood board is the base of the box and chisel off any excess glue that seeped out anywhere on the box.
- 4). Smooth out all the surfaces of the box using different grades of sandpaper. Apply a coat of wood stain to the box. Repeat with the remaining 8-by-2-inch board, which will be the lid for the wooden pencil case.
- 5). Attach two 1-inch hinges to one 8-inch long edge of the lid. The hinge kit will have the necessary screws for the hinges. Each hinge should be 1 inch from either corner of the board and 4 inches away from each other. Drill the screws into the board to hold the hinges in place.
- 6). Place the board over the box and drill the other side of the hinges onto the frame of the box.
