Five Steps to Finding Your Ideal Videographer

As well as having a photographer at your wedding you may decide that you also want the occasion videoing.
To make sure you get the right videographer work through these five easy steps.
1.
Decide what you want from the video
.
Decide ahead of time where you want the videoing to take place.
This may be at the bride's house showing the interaction between the bridesmaids and the bride as she readies herself for the day ahead.
Maybe before the wedding ceremony as guests approach the church, during a ceremony where you capture the moment where vows are exchanged and finally at the reception where the happy couple have their first dance and everyone gets into party mood.
After deciding where you're going to shoot the videos your next choice is to decide what style you are going to have the videos shot in.
Is it going to be traditional, is it going to be set to music, or are you going to go for a retro style? After deciding the answers to these two questions just make sure with the registrar and the reception venue that it is okay to shoot video footage.
2.
Search for possible videographers.
As you may have done when choosing your photographer, the first step to making the right choice for you is to gather enough information.
Some great sources of information are the Internet, wedding fairs, local directories, or probably the most important of all, word of mouth.
Your videographers should be able to meet with you, preferably at your chosen venue, and show you examples of his work.
Ideally, he will be able to show you an example for each of the styles that you are considering.
3.
Shortlist your candidates.
Now that you have gathered all your information together you need to shortlist your videographer candidates down to a select choice of three or four who you believe would work well with you and provide quality product.
My advice on choosing the videographer that you want to work with is to draw a list of questions in a grid format with the questions in the left-hand side column and your four candidates as column headings across the top.
Then ask each of them the same questions and place their answers in the appropriate box.
To give you an idea of the sort of questions you need to ask Ihave listed a few below
  1. Do you belong to any professional video organisations
  2. what payment structure do you use?
  3. How long will you spend shooting footage on the day?
  4. Can you give us three former clients can contact for references?
  5. Can we observe you working at another wedding?
  6. Have you shot footage at the venue that we've chosen before?
  7. What backup plans do you make?
  8. How long will it take for you to get the finished video back to us?
4.
Make your final choice.
All questions have been asked to all your final four candidates, the choice now needs to be made as to who you are going to work with on your wedding day.
Hopefully one will have stood out above all the others but if not carefully evaluate your answers and choose one.
Contact them quickly to make sure they are still available on your wedding day.
Once you've confirmed that they are still available for you there is one last thing to do.
5.
Get an agreement in writing.
Detail your agreement in writing, laying out exactly where the video is going to be shot, what style it will be shot in, when you're going to receive the finished product, and exactly how and when payment will be made for the finished and edited video.
Make sure you sign it and your chosen videographer signs it, keep a copy for yourself, and give a copy to your videographer.
