- 1). Cut eight petal-shaped pieces, four from each fabric. The shape should come to a point at the bottom edge and should have two obtuse curved lines from either edge of the point. There should be a 3-inch straight horizontal line connecting the two obtuse lines at the top of the shape. The total length of each petal should be 16 inches.
- 2). Cut a piece of tulle two times wider than the desired waist size, as the rose skirt portion starts at about the waistline. Cut the length to 20 inches.
- 3). Sew the top edge of the tulle along the width 1/2 inch from the edge using a machine straight stitch. Cut the thread at the end of the fabric, leaving a 3-inch tail.
- 4). Pull the bottom thread, gathering in the tulle. Gather it in to 2 inches longer than the desired waist circumference.
- 5). Using a machine straight stitch, sew the tulle to the tank top 1/2 inch from the bottom edge of the tank top, sewing directly over the gathered stitch on the tulle. Overlap the tulle 1 inch at the edges and stitch them one over the other.
- 6). Place the petals on the tank top, right sides up, horizontal lines on top, each 2 inches apart from top edge to top edge. Match the tops of the petals up with the top edge of the tulle piece. Arrange them in layers of satin, then chiffon, repeating the layers. The rounded edges of the petals will overlap slightly.
- 7). Sew the tops of the petals to the tank top, 1/4 inch from the petal edges using one continuous stitch line to catch all the petals.
- 8). Cut the tulle to be 1/2 inch shorter than the tips of the petals, if desired.
- 9). Wear your costume with red bloomers, tights or shorts and accessorize with red shoes.
