The Five Most Important Decisions for Brides to Be

The bride to be has so many decisions to make that the only way to keep track of things is with a master guide of some sort. More than a simple list, depending on the size of the wedding, this can be as complex as a customized handbook. There's the announcement list, the guest list, the food for the reception, gifts for the bridal party, Mom's dress, Dad's suit, flowers, cake...the list can seem endless.

Of course, the groom to be will help with some decisions, such as where the happy couple will honeymoon. But most of the planning and execution is up to the bride to be and whomever she can draft to help her.

The first big decision will be the date for the wedding. Of course, the groom to be should be consulted on this important item. After all, it's a big day in his life, too. So choose a date that is convenient for both of you and for your parents and siblings as well.

Date accommodations should be made if necessary for other important guests, such as grandparents or special aunts and uncles-and the best man and maid of honor, a well. But rest assured that whatever date you choose, the day itself will turn out in the most wonderful way.

The second big decision for the bride to be is where to hold the ceremony. Either you or your groom may have planned all your lives to marry at the little church back home or on some island paradise, so this is something that must also be discussed between the two of you.

Both mothers of the happy couple may have their own ideas about where the wedding should be held, but remember whose big day it really is. While you want to keep everyone as happy as possible, recognize from the beginning that it's not an easy task. And while you don't want to appear selfish and diva-like, you must remember that the wedding ceremony is to join you and your fianc together. So it should be held at a location that is meaningful to the two of you.

The third important thing to decide is how big the wedding should be. Do you want to include everyone you've ever known or do you want to keep the ceremony small and intimate? Again, the groom and both sets of parents will have their own ideas so be sure to consult them. But if you have a strict budget, you'll want to keep it in mind.

The size of the location for the ceremony will also have a lot to do with how many guests you can invite. First list everyone that you absolutely want to include, and then expand the list until you've compiled the right names for your particular ceremony.

The fourth decision will be where you want to honeymoon. If you and your groom have agLee on that island paradise wedding, this might not be a consideration. After all, you'll already be in 'paradise,' so why not stay there for a few days?

But if you did marry at your family church or city hall or even in a nearby park, you'll want to choose a getaway that will allow the two of you to spend time together without interruption. You'll want a nice place that gives you just enough activities to be interesting without being overwhelming. Choose a place that both of you would like to visit and then book the trip.

One more-and perhaps the most fun-decision is your wedding gown. Every young woman has an image in her mind as to what her wedding gown should look like, and you don't want to disappoint your dreams. For example, if the wedding is a formal affair in the spring, you might choose the Oleg Cassini Strapless Lace and Tulle Slim Gown. Beaded lace and tiers of pleated tulle cascade over this dress and down to a chapel train that is the perfect length.

If you want to keep it simple and sweet for an afternoon garden wedding, you might choose the Galina Tea-Length Satin Gown with 3D Floral Details. This pretty white or ivory dress is strapless with 3D floral beaded detail across the top. The empire waist and tea-length skirt will make you look slender and youthful on your big day.

But even if city hall is where you'll marry, there's a perfect dress for you. Consider a Short Strapless Taffeta Sheath Dress with a fashionable shrug and stand-up ruffled neckline. This dress is glamorous and smart, and you'll look perfect as you stand beside your handsome groom.

Whatever items might arise that require a future bride's decision-making skills, just remember that this is joyous time in your life. Make those decisions with a smile and everyone else won't be able to help but smile back.
