Mark Butcher's 173* in the fourth Test at Leeds 2001
The Australian's were all over the English like a rash in the 2001 Ashes series in England. The England team was down and out as they had already lost the series, thereby, the Ashes too. Into the fourth Test at Headingley, The Aussies once again piled on a mammoth score, thanks to centuries from Ricky Ponting and Damien Martyn. In reply, the English were bowled out for 309. Now, with a big lead, the Aussies went on to score some quick runs and set England a daunting task to chase it down in the last innings. With absolutely no confidence, the England openers were back in the hut cheaply. It was all but curtains for the home team. Suddenly, there was some fight and stubbornness shown by the gritty Mark Butcher, who was ready to battle it out in the middle. As McGrath, Lee, Warne and Gillespie tried dislodging others, Butcher was comfortably guiding the unlikely victory. In the end, a dogged 173* sealed an improbable win for the England team.

On his home ground, after becoming only the third batsman in Test history to cross the 10,000 run mark, S Waugh drove the final ball of the day from Richard Dawson to the cover boundary to complete his 29th Test hundred, equalling Sir Donald Bradman's record. The Test also saw centuries from Gilchrist, Butcher and Vaughan but, the century from Waugh was the talking point. Although, England went on to win the Test but, the Aussies were basking in glory of their skipper's memorable milestone.
Epic second Test at Edgbaston in 2005
After being hammered in the first Test at Lord's, the England side wanted to avenge their defeat and were determined to turn the tables at Birmingham. Towards the end of the fourth day, the Test match was sliding towards the home team. However, as the final day of the Test began, a partnership between Warne and Lee began to unsettle the English bowlers and the pair was in striking distance of helping Australia seal another nail-biting contest. In the end, as the match was slipping away from England, a short ball from Harmison got rid of Kasprowicz and England won the match by 2 runs. A moment of true sportsmanship was on display as Flintoff displayed a very genuine gesture of putting his arms around Lee, sympathizing with the paceman for a close shave.
Shane Warne's 700th Test wicket at MCG in 2006/07
Even before a ball was bowled in the 4th Test, there was an air of expectancy around Warne's 700th Test wicket. And, as the match eventually got underway at a full house at the MCG, local hero Warne got the cherry in his hand and produced an absolute ‘Jaffa' to get rid of opener Andrew Strauss. The reaction was deafening and the reception Warne got was probably one of the best ever on the cricketing field. A true champion effort from the genius called Warne!
