- 1). Pour the paint into one of the paint trays in stripes. In other words, the lightest color paint at the top of the tray, the second darkest shade below that, and the darkest shade at the bottom. Since common color combinations for Venetian plaster are earth tones, a dark brown, medium brown and tan would work well together.
- 2). Put some of the lightest shade of paint onto the paint trowel and apply it to the top third of the walls. Do this with short, uneven strokes.
- 3). Put some of the darkest paint on the trowel and apply it to the bottom third of the walls.
- 4). Apply the middle shade of paint to the trowel, adding some of the lightest shade as well. Start at the top of wall and apply both shades of paint. As you reach the middle, put the middle shade and darkest shade onto the trowel and begin applying them to the middle of the wall, all the down to the bottom.
- 5). Stand back from the wall to observe your handiwork. Add more paint to any areas you feel need it, with an eye toward creating a three-dimensional effect.
