- 1). Remove the chains securing the tank to the loading truck. Place the lifting straps to the lifting lugs welded on the tank. Place the latching hook through the hole of the lifting lug and secure the other end of the straps to the hoisting equipment. Ensure the length of the straps allow the tank to be lifted and have clearance along the ground toward the storage shed.
- 2). Lay an indoor tank drip pan on the floor of the building if you have a fuel-storage tank that stands on legs. Align the metal legs with the four corner openings of the drip pan. Lower the tank on the metal legs as the tank settles into the metal cradle that connects the four legs together.
- 3). Use wooden saddles if you are placing the tank lower to the ground. The wooden saddles are long blocks of wood sitting vertically that have curvatures to cradle the rounded shape of the tank. Unfasten the hooks and remove the straps.
- 4). Install the connection lines to the tank. Fasten the metal fuel pipe according the heating furnace's installation manual. Tighten all pipe connections to prevent leaking. Fill the tank with the heating fuel. Visually inspect for any leaks along the tank. Empty the tank immediately if you spot any leaks or if the floor turns damp. Clean up the spill and contact the tank manufacturer immediately for a replacement tank.
