- 1). Measure the length and width of the tear in your convertible top with the measuring tape. Use the large pair of scissors to cut the fabric or swatch to a little over one inch of the length and width of the tear.
- 2). Clean and dry the area throughly around the damaged part of the convertible top. Apply a coat of silicone adhesive about one-quarter inch inside the swatch's edges. Place the swatch carefully over the slashed part of the convertible top.
- 3). Press the swatch on the top using your hands to make sure the adhesive holds tight on the vinyl material.
- 4). Place the big book, or a flat, heavy object,on top of the newly sealed area, allowing the adhesive to stick firmly on the vinyl as it dries. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes to dry.
- 5). Dip the paintbrush into the bucket of paint and apply it on to the newly dried and repaired area. Apply two to three coats of paint, or until you have achieved your preferred shade. Allow the paint to dry for at least 24 hours.
