- 1). Slice fruits, such as apples, about 1/4 inch thick on a cutting board with a sharp knife. Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the food dehydrator tray. Different foods may be dried at the same time as long as they require the same temperature. Fruits and meats will dry at different temperatures, but different fruits may be dried at the same time. Lay mango slices on a second tray and apricots sliced in half on a third tray. Use all five trays for each food dehydrating session to maximize energy efficiency.
- 2). Dry food at a higher temperature for the first few hours, then a lower setting for the rest. For example, when you are drying fruits, set the Waring Food Dehydrator on high for the first two hours, then low for the rest of the time spent drying. The full amount of time spent drying will depend upon the mixture of foods in the dehydrator.
- 3). Store dried foods in sealed plastic bags or tubs. When properly sealed, the dried food will resist mold and stay fresh and edible for longer than if not sealed properly.
