So, plan accordingly and make sure you get information about this when you rent your car.
This is especially important if you head "up-island" to the towns of Tisbury, Menemsha or Aquinnah.
There are more gas stations near Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven and Edgartown.

This includes, the colorful clay cliffs in Aquinnah (Gay Head), the sunset in Menemsha, the quaint countryside in Tisbury and Chilmark and the South Beach area in Edgartown.

You'll take a 5 minute ferry from Edgartown to Chappaquiddick and your car goes on the ferry.
Then, you'll drive off the ferry and explore the miles of roads and land on "Chappy".
One attraction on Chappy is the Mytoi Japanese gardens.
Another is the Wildlife refuge in Cape Poge.
This is the location of the bridge Ted Kennedy drove off in 1969, killing his woman companion.
The bridge has been rebuilt but you can get a sense of the road and landscape involved in this terrible tragedy.
Generally, you can find parking at most destinations on the Vineyard.
If you go to Menemsha for the sunset, you might have a tough time finding a space and we'd recommend you go before 3:30 to avoid problems with parking.
There aren't any highways or major roads on the island and in many locations you'll need to share the road with joggers, bikers and other tourists.
