Cape Town - at the tip of the African continent - is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It was on top of the list on Tripadvisor and hundreds of thousands of tourists are visiting the city each and every year. It is hard to decide which are the most beautiful spots, which are the must for every tourist when in town. Some are natural wonders, some are local hot spots, which make the flair of Cape Town so special. Here is my personal Top 10 List:
1. Table Mountain
Currently running for the 7 new wonders of the world Table Mountain defines the whole city. The different suburbs and areas are defined by nothing else than this magnificent mountain. Some feel it is like the back bone of the mother city. Some enjoy the unique hiking trails. Some have opulent sun downers on top of this 1087m high flat topped mountain. But it is definitely special to every Capetonian.
2. Cape of Good Hope
Seriously another stunning place in the Cape. And which tourist does return from a visit in Cape Town without a picture from this most southern-westerly spot of the African continent? An absolute must see.
3. Chapman's Peak Drive
Between Hout Bay and Noordhoek this amazing drive and the view from it will blow you away. It is simply mind blowing to watch the sun set over Hout Bay from this drive. Don't forget the bring some chilled beer€¦ or even better: some bubbly.
4. Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
One of most beautiful botanical gardens around. The flora is just incredible and should be part of any visit to Cape Town. Cape Town is all about nature - Go to Kirstenbosch to learn all about it.
5. Winelands
What is a visit to Cape Town without wine tastings? Nothing! Great farms such as Spier (with the little extra attractions like the Cheetah sanctuary) or Ernie Els make it an unforgettable day out of the buzzling City.
6. The Townships
Even though the townships are hard to accept for anyone, they are a great place of cultural and it is in the townships that you will experience the other side of South Africa. Very different in culture, very different in life, yet very interesting and humbling. Don't forget to pass by at Mzoli's Butchery for some good Braai meat and a good party. What can I say? A sunday lunch in Kalk Bay, some nice fish food, a little bit of shopping and a nice Italian ice-cream for dessert? Kalk Bay is the get-out-of-the-city spot for all Capetonians and during summer bumping with visitors.
8. The Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront is a big mall located in the CBD of Cape Town. You can find here everything from high-class restaurants to african art and mainstream shops.
9. Hout Bay Harbour
Hout Bay Harbour is offering a lot especially during the weekends. After a ship cruise to Seal Island, you can visit the newly created Bay Harbour Market and have lunch at world-famous Fish on the Rocks
10. Blouberg Beach
Don't leave Cape Town without a picture taken from Blouberg Beach towards Table Mountain. It is like the perfect post card picture. In fact you can find that shot on most postcards.
