Vejer is a beautiful town sitting on a hill 200 metres above sea level.
It is just inland from the coast and is very close to Trafalgar - site of the historic battle just off the coast.
The old town is comprised of very narrow streets where pretty patios full of flowers can be seen behind open doorways.
There are lots of small bars and shops as well as a wide selection of restaurants - some of which do only open in the summer.
There are fantastic views from many parts of the town - west over El Palmar and south to the beaches south of Barbate and also the coast of Morocco is clearly visible most days.
Vejer is a hidden gem in Spain and well worth spending a week or more.
There are many places that are easily accessible for a day trip such as Cadiz, Jerez and inland to the mountains.
On the edge of the town is a small new development of houses where we have a house and are fortunate to have the only large open air swimming pool in the town.
Everything is walkable in the town so if you stay there you can go out in the evening, have a lovely meal and a few beers or glasses of wine and then stroll back to your accommodation.
There are lots of opportunity for walking both around the town and out into the countryside and hills surrounding the town.
Several natural parks are located in the area and there are also lots of opportunity to see birds and other wildlife.
A town not to be missed!
