Stainless steel, like wood, has a grain but it may not be easy to see.wood grain image by Benjamin Jefferson from Fotolia.com
Determine which way the grain of the stainless-steel sheet runs by looking closely at the sheet. When you begin to buff, you must always move the buffer at the same angle as the grain. - 3). Apply an abrasive compound to your buffing pad. This further aids the process of buffing without damaging the steel itself. Only apply a small amount as directed on the bottle.
- 4). Set your buffer to medium speed and move it in straight lines along the steel. Ensure you do not apply too much pressure to the buffer, as you can damage the steel. Buff each section of the sheet twice. It should only take about five minutes depending on the size of your sheet.

Wax will give you that mirror-like finish.sealing wax image by TAlex from Fotolia.com
Apply 1 tsp. of stainless-steel polish with carnauba wax to a dry dish cloth and spread it over the stainless-steel sheet. Apply in circular motions, adding more polish if needed. This helps the buffing and also leaves your steel with a mirror-like finish. Once applied, leave it to dry for 30 minutes or until the wax turns a cloudy white color. - 6

Buff the steel a second time, this time with a nylon cloth. You can use your buffer attachment again if you wish, but at a slower speed. Once you're finished, the steel sheet should look as good as new.
