What are your values about money and where are you financially as you plan to marry? These are really very different questions that will help you determine how much you want to spend on your wedding.
How you spend money for your wedding is indicative of how you will spend money in your life.
You need to be able to talk about this.
And because money is so sticky and hard, you may need support.
(Think of it as a tune-up before you go on a long trip.
It's good for your car, it's good for your marriage!)
In this day and age, it's ridiculous not to.
But you also have to plan about your values.
What's at the heart of what's happening on your wedding day? But what do you want your wedding to accomplish? (Yes, wedding ceremony and wedding vows are going to get you married.
What do you want beyond that?) Only once these things are clear are you ready to move on to planning the wedding that will marry you in the style that is appropriate to your marriage, as it is now and as you want it to be.

- How do the two of you spend money? Do you talk to one another about the money your going to spend?
- Do you have an everyday budget? Is all the money on the budget, or simply some of it?
- How much discussion between you is there before you spend money? Do you talk about big purchases? How about little ones?
- Is one person in charge of the budget? How did that happen?
- How much does that discussion change the way you spend money?
- How easy are those discussions?
- How much credit card debt do you have?
- How much savings do you have? The economy is awful.
Are you in a position to withstand someone's losing his or her job? - Where is the money coming from to pay for your wedding?
- Do you have a wedding budget?
- If I asked you what your (shared) values about money were, would you know?
- Would your values be reflected in the way you spend money?
