Fashion changes quickly in rock-and-roll and no decade is marked by a single look. Various 1980s music scenes and different rock stars had their own signature looks. Style your 80s costume off of your favorite retro rocker or combine the best of several rockers' styles to make your own 1980s rock star look. - Get ready to "whip it good" in a DEVO costume. DEVO went through many looks throughout their career, but most of them featured the "energy dome" hat, the most recognizable DEVO accessory. For a Whip It-era DEVO costume, cut the sleeves off a black turtleneck and wear it with black shorts, shoes and socks. For a different DEVO look, wear a yellow jumpsuit with a thick black belt and big black shades, along with the hat. Write DEVO over the right side of your chest area in large black letters.
- Be a bad boy or girl in an 80s hard rock costume. Start with a long wig teased out, with a bandana on top. Wear tight, ripped jeans with or without fishnets underneath, along with some beat up sneakers or cowboy boots. Wear a tight t-shirt with a biker jacket or a denim or leather vest. Accessorize with rhinestone fingerless gloves on one or both hands, arm bands and bracelets, a single gold earring in the left ear for boys or big earrings in both for girls, as well as a thick silver -- or silver-looking -- chain around your neck.
- Go truly outrageous at your next costume party by dressing up as Jem, the 80s cartoon rockstar. With Jem, pink is the key -- a hot pink dress, eyeshadow and boots or heels, a pink or pink-streaked blond wig and light pink tights. Accessorize with pink earrings, a silver belt or sash and as much glitter as you can handle. Complete the look with a toy microphone, preferably pink.
