- 1). Trim back any overgrown shrubbery and remove woodpiles from your property. Eliminating the armadillos' habitat discourages them from invading your property.
- 2). Sprinkle mothballs directly over the portion of your property most susceptible to armadillos. Mothballs are only effective at repelling armadillos from small areas such as flowerbeds, not entire lawns. Armadillos dislike the smell of mothballs.
- 3). Exterminate any insect infestations from the susceptible area if the armadillos keep returning. Have insect extermination experts install an insect control system in the susceptible area to eradicate the insects on which the armadillos feed.
- 4). Install a chicken wire fence or other similar wire fence around the susceptible area if nothing else stops the armadillos. Bury the chicken wire 1 foot deep in the ground to impede the armadillos from burrowing under the fence. Fences are effective at keeping armadillos out of entire properties.
