What to Look For in a Leather Motorcycle Jacket

The basic and most important function of a leather motorcycle jacket is to ensure the safety of the rider.
The armor for a motorcyclist usually has motorcycle jacket, gloves, leather chaps, motorcycle boots and helmet.
Among all of these above mentioned items, leather jackets are the most popular ones simply because of the fact that these jackets not only save the riders from cold but also act as a windbreaker.
Not to mention, riders like the aesthetics charm of these jackets and feel themselves incomplete without a leather jacket.
If you talk about jackets material, leather is highly recommended, because in case of accident and fall, leather saves a rider from potential injuries.
History tells us that leather jackets mostly got their popularity in 1940s specifically in 1946 where in "Wild One"; Marlon Brando wore these leather jackets and made them more like a style symbol to the riders.
Mainly leather jackets are meant to provide protection to rider's arms and torso.
Only just, leather jackets have evolved themselves as an effective product for riders, in terms of security.
They usually come equipped with backbone, elbow and shoulder protection.
A light protection gear is stitched inside the jacket as well.
A lot of different kinds of jackets are nowadays, accessible in markets.
Mainly those are of two types.
First one is protective outfits, usually seen on race tracks in various bright colors and designs, and the second one is the traditional jacket or trouser type.
Usually riders like to wear jackets which have multi-pockets, zips and are of short length.
In olden days, leather jackets from cowhide were worn commonly.
Those cowhide jackets were thick and used to provide durability to their riders; on the other hand jackets made from sheep skin were worn more as a fashion statement.
Nowadays, such leather jackets are available in market which are water proof and save their riders from rain, most of them, therefore, are also fitted with a liner.
A good rider's jacket must have good weather protection, usability, usable pocket space and should be adjustable.
The thickness should not be more than 4 mm and less than 2 mm.
this thickness usually determines the type of protection a jacket would be offering to its rider.
It is therefore better to for a leather jacket, which is thick.
Other specifications of jackets are usually the mere dropped back so to keep the wind out when rider leans ahead, or pre-curved sleeves.
Nowadays a lot of companies making leather jackets are offering their products in market but popular motorcycle's jackets manufacturers are Leather Vibe, Harley Davidson, Tour Master, Alpine Star and Wilson Leather.
The jackets of these companies not only keep their riders safe but also give them a style statement as well.
