Narrator : When is not falling asleep fast enough considered insomnia?

Michael Breus, PhD: Usually if it's taking you longer than 20 to 25 minutes to fall asleep, and that's occurring more than 3 times a week, that's when you've probably got to start looking at some of the things that we've been talking about.Your bedroom, how much light exposure you're getting, how much caffeine you're drinking and how much anxiety you have as to whether or not any of those could be affecting your sleep.Insomnia appears to be the most popular sleep disorder if you will.Approximately one third of the population at any given time is going to have insomnia and 10 percent of those people have chronic insomnia. Ten percent of the entire population is a lot of people.
