Breast Deformity Corrections Done Through Plastic Surgery

Not every woman is born with perfect breasts. In fact, many women deal with a variety of different breast deformities. One of the most common types of a breast deformity is known as tuberous breast. This deformity is also known as many other things such as tubular, snoopy breast, herniated areola complex, constricted breast, narrow based breast or a lower pole hypoplasia. Tuberous breast deformity will often become evident during the year stages of puberty. Some of the characteristics of this deformity are having breasts that are unilateral and asymmetric. However this condition can affect the shaping and formation of both breasts. The woman's breast will be present with uneven sizes and shapes of one or both breasts and they often have a tube like appearance.

Women who have this deformity often deal with self-esteem issues as well. Some women will give up their favorite sports, avoid medical doctors, wear clothes that may hide their shape and will often avoid sexual intercourse. Plastic surgery can help to correct these natural birth defects to allow women to regain their self-esteem and by doing so they will enjoy a higher quality of life. Plastic surgery can a bit of a challenge as the surgery is often done in more than surgical session. The first part of the operation will be to restore the base dimension of the mammary glands and to begin correcting the deformity. The surgery will also involve correcting the lower quadrant of the breasts and then to reposition the infra-mammary fold. This is then followed by reducing the size of the areola and to ensure that the breasts are now symmetrical.

Due to the amount of work that is required and since every woman is different there may be a need for more than surgery. The surgical procedure will generally begin with using the 6th rib as a landmark and a destination to make the new fold. The goal of the plastic surgery is to ensure that the breasts are as natural looking as possible while making sure that the breasts are also symmetrical. In most cases the approach will be done through the areola. This is known as the circumareola approach. By going in through this region of the body will allow the plastic surgeon to correct the deformities and also be able to ensure that areola is symmetrical as well. Each surgery is different and is based on the anatomical deformities on both the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the breast.

Going in through the areola also results in the release of the constricting ring at the breast space. When this release happens it allows for the breasts to be rounded out and leaves an area for the breast implant to be placed.  At this point the surgery will entail making sure that the breast implants are uniform and additional lifting may be needed.
