- 1). Locate cardboard recycling dumpsters
This one takes some bravery, but can yield great rewards. Drive to the nearest strip mall and cruise down the road that runs behind their stores. There should be a cardboard recycling Dumpster or two that the entire strip mall stores share. You can get all the boxes you need and more just from one visit to a cardboard recycling dumpster. - 2). Check Internet Classified Ads
Often times, people who have just moved post a free boxes notice on sites like Craigslist. Alternatively, you can post a notice requesting boxes. - 3). Ask Local businesses
All businesses that don't create their own products receive tons of boxes each week. The best place to start is at a bookstore, like Borders or Barnes and Noble. Also check out grocery stores, electronics stores, and discount warehouses like Wal-Mart. It will take some legwork, but you'll get loads of free boxes. - 4). Go to Sam's Club
Sam's Club does not have grocery bags, so they have a storage area of cardboard boxes at the front of the store for shoppers to use. You are free and welcome to take boxes from this area. Sometimes they have many and sometimes only a few, so you'll probably need to check back often to get a good amount of boxes. - 5). Tell your friends and family you need boxes
Don't be afraid to send out a mass email to your friend and family asking for help. Chances are, someone you know knows someone who just moved or is about to. Jump on the chance to get a hold of their boxes before someone else does!
