Chariton, Iowa is only an hour from the state capital in Des Moines, but remains a family-centered rural community. The county seat of Lucas County, Chariton has a number of parks and recreational areas as well as a thriving Amish community which draws tourists. Fishing and camping are popular local activities and the area boasts the Vredenburg-Chariton Family Aquaitc Center with a flume water slide and in-pool seating.
