  Anacortes is a port city on Fidalgo Island in Washington state with a past steeped in trade and industry. This Pacific Northwest city has become an attractive place for fine artists, retirees and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Anacortes opened its arms to many visitors since it established in 1871, and continues to do so with its pet-friendly hotels.
  
  

Ship Harbor Inn

• Many hotels worldwide restrict pets to smoking rooms. If this arrangement does not agree with you, look no further than Ship Harbor Inn, which boasts that it is 100 percent smoke-free.
  
  Although Ship Harbor has no size restrictions for your furry friend, there is a fee of $25 for each pet, as of August 2010.
  
  In addition to standard rooms, Ship Harbor Inn offers kitchen cottages, each with a full kitchen, a private porch and a view of Fidalgo Bay. If you and your pet need fresh air and a long walk, the 220-acre Washington Park is a two-minute drive from the hotel.

Fidalgo Country Inn

• Fidalgo Country Inn offers four types of rooms: standard, deluxe, family (twice as much space as the deluxe, which might be ideal when animals are on the trip) and luxury suites. Each room in the hotel features specialty coffee from a locally owned roasting company.
  
  The hotel allows two pets per room and takes dogs and cats. Each pet incurs a $20 pet fee as of August 2010. The hotel has no official size restrictions, but call ahead if your pet is particularly large.
  
  In the event of a pet injury, The Cat's Pajamas Animal Clinic is 92 feet from the hotel.

Islands Inn

• Islands Inn offers pet accommodations only for dogs and small caged animals (for instance a gerbil), but not cats. The hotel has no size restriction for your pet, but as of August 2010, it does require a $5 fee.
  
  Executive Suites and Fireplace Rooms have king size beds. Standard Rooms and Family Rooms have queen size beds. Each Standard Room comes with a partial view of Fidalgo Bay. Family Rooms are all on the first floor, which is ideal for quickly taking out your dog to the John Storvik Playground (only 0.3 miles from the hotel).
  
  Islands Inn offers a rustic setting for fine dining in Camerons Restaurant. It features plush seating, wood paneled walls and rough hewn wood tables on which to savor local sea food. No pets are allowed in the dining area.
