Gas Pain Relief

    Diet

    • A change in diet can help reduce gas or help it pass through the body quicker. Foods such as beans, broccoli, whole-wheat bread, and carbonated beverages should be limited if they cause you painful gas. Cut back on fried and fatty foods and limit dairy intake. Switching to lactose-free milk may help as well.

    Medications

    • Medications can bring relief of painful gas. Beano should be taken with the first bite of food. The less gas in the intestines, the better Beano works. Take Gas-X or Mylanta when you feel the painful signs of gas beginning. Both medications contain simethicone that break up gas bubbles and are available over the counter. Call the doctor if none of these medications work or if symptoms become more severe.

    Lifestyle Changes

    • Modifying lifestyle can reduce gas pain. Stress can cause an overproduction of stomach acid. Find a quiet time and place to meditate. When the body is calm, stomach acid is reduced. Exercises like stretching and squats help move the gas through the intestines, bringing relief.
