- 1). Make a compost mixture from wood bark, wood chips, paper, manure, leaves, grass, leaf mold, plant clippings, branches and twigs.
- 2). Remove large rocks from the soil by hand. Then till the soil with a garden tiller. This process may take one to several days depending on the size of the land and the number of rocks in the soil.
- 3). Lay a thick layer of compost over the tilled soil. Till the soil several more times. Continue to add compost and till the soil every day for several weeks until you have a foot of rich soil. Once you have a foot of good soil, plant your grass seeds by sprinkling them over the soil. Water well.
