I know.
It's a crazy busy world.
That is what I think when I find myself having to schedule lunch with my friends or make phone calls "hands-free" in my car to my favorite relatives on the way to a meeting in traffic or see the dentist on a specially-scheduled Saturday morning.
When did it get like this? Has it always been like this and now we are just getting to the age when we are living it like all the people before us or is it the fast-paced Southern California lifestyle that keeps us constantly juggling all of the mess with the few golden moments of relaxation and beauty that keep us living in this supposed paradise? So if life is so great that we work our asses off to keep living it then why are we constantly forgetting or not making room for the things that will help us sustain it? You know what I mean.
Isn't it always right before a scheduled teeth-cleaning that you find yourself trying to catch up on the flossing you haven;t been doing since the last time you saw the dentist? Or maybe you have started to eat oatmeal the last 2 weeks to bring your blood pressure down and drop a few pounds so that mean mean doctor won't lecture you all over again.
What if you could fit in a little bit of the perfect things every week instead of trying t cram it all in when you remember you have been sliding for far too long.
Maybe living the perfect life is not possible in this day and age as there are just too many facets of perfection to keep up with.
But what if you could just get a little slice of it? What you are supposed to do - Lift weights at least 2-3 times per week.
We all know that lifting weight has been shown to burn calories, raise metabolism and strengthens bone mass.
And hey, those strong muscles get hungry and just happen to start snacking on the surrounding fat when they do.
If you can't hit the gym however and don't want to invest in some weights at home, there are still moves that you can practice in which you use your own body weight to build muscle.
Many balancing exercises can do that as well as push-ups (the old stand by) lunges, squats, and yoga poses.
What you are supposed to do - Eat a healthy breakfast.
This is an easy one to skip.
Many people think they don't have time to sit down for a meal.
If that is the case and sprouted wheat bread, blueberries and egg whites are not in the cards, perhaps try a low-cal drinkable yogurt and a bar full of fiber (and low on sugar) to start your day off right.
What you are supposed to do - Wash your hands! Didn't your mom always hound you about that growing up? Well sometimes mom does know best.
Germs are everywhere.
Doorknobs, grocery carts, the kitchen counter.
All it takes are touching some germs from your hands to your face and you can get a cold or some nasty intestinal flu.
So use sanitizer and take those wipes at the grocery store near the carts and use them for goodness sake.
Wash the hands every chance you get.
It's one of the best bets to stopping sickness in it's tracks in flu season.
