RS: So what's next after Elvis?
Agostino Carollo: I hope that this work will help to introduce Elvis to a whole new generation, especially young people, and if I can do this as well, I will be very happy.
RS: Are you working with other artists right now?
Agostino Carollo: No, I'm just concentrating on this project because it's really absorbing a hundred percent, actually a hundred and twenty percent, of my time.
RS: So you are Spankox, but you also record under several other names like Ago. What happened with that project?
Agostino Carollo: Well, up until now I never released records under my real name, because I like to do different things. For four years, I've used the name Spankox, because "To the Club" was a record that was so huge that everybody started to call me that. But I still have my Ago side, that's a little bit more commercial. You remember that "Tell Me Where You Are" was a good hit in the United States, too. I am still working on Eyes Cream, because I never forget "Fly Away." That's actually one of the tracks that they still play today, after nearly eight years, and it still makes me really fly. In fact on the Elvis Presley remix album there's one version that I signed as Eyes Cream version.
I still keep all my projects alive, because sometimes when I make a song I'm thinking, well this would be an Eyes Cream song, or maybe it's an Ago song. That's nice because it's like having different personalities, and maybe it's because I am a Gemini.
Geminis like to be under different covers.
RS: So tell us about this project with the Annette Strean of Venus Hum.
Agostino Carollo: I met Annette in Vegas last year, and I just happened to write this song called "So True." I was a speaker in the Billboard event. She came to me saying, 'I'm a singer, I'm very happy to meet you,' and all of that. She was very nice and I told her, 'Look, I have just written a song and maybe we should try to record it.' So we recorded it in the Rio Hotel, where I set up my studio. The song was really cool, and I think it will be released in the States very soon. It's one of the best songs I've ever written, and she sang it in a very beautiful way. I remember when I sang the song to her she said it's one of the best songs she'd ever sung. She sang it in a very, very special way; it was really fantastic. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I believe that this song will be very popular in the United States very soon.
RS: After the Elvis album, can you think of any other legendary artist you'd like to remix?
Agostino Carollo: Well, you know, I think Elvis is really number one. I can't think about anybody else, because for me working with Elvis was really like working with the best. So far I'm happy with Elvis, and my mind is all on him.
RS: If we wanted to find out more about you, do you have a website or MySpace page where all your stuff is?
Agostino Carollo: Yes, you can just go to www.agostinocarollo.com, or you can go to www.spankox.com, or just type in my name – Spankox, Agostino Carollo, or Ago – in Google, and you'll find me.
RS: What was your involvement with GiGi d'Agostino?
Agostino Carollo: A few years ago we met because I made this song called "Put On Your Red Shoes." We started to work a little bit in the studio together and this fantastic remix of "Put On Your Red Shoes" was released. Gigi did this exceptional remix, and I started to do some gigs with Gigi. It was a very nice project, the song was fantastic and still I really like it very much. The song was a top twenty in Germany; it was number one in Italy. It was really a good moment of my career. Gigi remained more on his style. I developed other sounds. At the time I was doing the follow up of Eyes Cream, "Open Up Your Mind" – that was also a top ten in the US, so I came to the US several times. After we spent some time doing music together we took separate ways, but it was a very nice moment of my career.
RS: Were you involved with "L'amour Toujours?"
Agostino Carollo: Oh no, that was one of Gigi's first hits. I was not involved at the time. At that time I was involved with my project, Extreme. That was actually the project that gave me my first international hits, like "Love Song." That was nearly ten years ago, at the moment when dance music all over Europe was really at the top. Some great acts were around and dance music was all over. Clubs were always super full and it was really a great time for dance music. It's coming back, I think.
RS: What would you like to say to all your fans out there?
Agostino Carollo: I hope to meet you very soon at one of my gigs, my DJ sets around the world. And thank you very much for supporting my music, and remember that all we need is love the music.
