The Saturn Ion 3 was noted for its affordability, being one of the lowest-priced domestic cars in America while still having a decent list of standard features. The large trunk capacity was one of its most noted features, as well as its rear access doors. The Saturn Ion 3 was produced from 2003 to 2007 as part of the sedan line from the Saturn Corporation---a division of General Motors---to replace its predecessor, the Saturn S-Series. - The Saturn Ion 3 came equipped with a standard 2.2-liter, four-liter 16-valve engine. The five-speed manual transmission was standard with an optional automatic transmission available for purchase.
- Driver and passenger airbags, five-passenger seating, cup holders, seat belt pre-tensioners and an AM/FM audio system are all in the Ion 3's standard package. The rear bench seat is a split-folding seat. The only interior color available is gray.
- The Saturn Ion 3 is available in Berry Red, Polar White, Black Onyx and Silver Nickel. The exterior of the Saturn Ion 3 sports 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. Additional standard exterior features include remote trunk release, intermittent wipers, all-season tires and manual exterior mirrors. Doors and side panels are dent resistant, as has long been the case on many Saturn models.
- Other available options include a four-wheel anti-lock brake system, air conditioning, traction control and an AM/FM/CD audio system.
- The Saturn Ion 3 is well above average in safety standards. In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash-test ratings, the Saturn Ion 3 received five stars for passenger safety, five stars for driver safety, four stars for front side impact, four stars for rear side impact and four stars for a rollover rating.
- The Ion 3 has a basic warranty of three years or 36,000 miles. On the drive train, the warranty is the same and includes roadside service. The Ion has a warranty against rust for six years or 100,000 miles.
