- Motorcycle and ATV vehicles require recurrent repacking of the exhaust to dampen the exhaust pulse wave. Repacking your exhaust system is considered regular maintenance, so it is important to know how often you need to replace the packing. Care is needed when repacking your exhaust to prevent voiding your muffler warranty. Repacking services are also available if you do not feel that you are mechanically capable of packing your exhaust yourself.
- Muffler packing is considered an item that continuously wears down. Replace your packing if your muffler ever becomes submerged in water or mud, as this makes the fiberglass packing in your muffler useless. Inspect your muffler packing after approximately every 15 to 30 hours of use, or when you notice the performance levels of your ATV or motorcycle declining. Clean the perforator tube holes with a wire brush to keep mud from entering the muffler and contaminating the packing.
- The repacking material in your muffler is not a warrantied item, but your muffler is. Check with your manufacturer concerning the warranty information on your muffler and its requirements. HMF Racing requires that you use the same stainless steel rivets that it provides for re-assembly to maintain an active warranty.
- If you are unable to repack your exhaust yourself, you have the option to send your exhaust to your manufacturer and it can perform the task for you for a charge. Fill out the warranty claim form for your manufacturer, include a copy of proof of purchase and mail it along with the exhaust to the manufacturer. Print copies of all forms sent for your personal records.
