Why It Is Important To Monitor Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder In Teenagers?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is type of mental health problem which affects millions of people around the world.
While people of any age can have this disorder, it is usually children and teenagers that are at the most risk.
Also, if you don't have ADHD as a child or as a teen, then you won't have it as an adult either.
Some medical experts believe people are born with the condition, while others believe it only develops after the first few years of a person's life.
Quite often, it only becomes evident that a child has ADHD once they start school.
This is particularly true in households where there is only one child, since parents are not able to compare the child's behavior to that of siblings.
It should also be noted that ADHD can manifest itself in different forms.
For example, a child may be extremely inattentive, but they might not be hyperactive or impulsive, in which case they would be deemed to have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) rather than full blown ADHD.
Other kids may only suffer slightly from inattentiveness, but display problematic behaviors arising from hyperactivity and/or impulsivity.
ADHD, along with the other related disorders, cannot be cured.
They can often be controlled and managed, but they cannot be cured.
With that having been said, many children and teenagers outgrow the disorder by the time they reach adulthood.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in teenagers has to be monitored very closely.
This does not mean one should not monitor younger kids as well.
Kids of all ages who have been diagnosed with ADHD should be monitored, but parents need to be very vigilant when they have a teen with this condition.
When children reach puberty, their bodies start going through a number of changes.
They experience physical changes to their bodies, they experience emotional changes, and of course they experience some major psychological changes.
It is widely accepted that puberty is often one of the most difficult stages in a person's life, and this already difficult time can be made considerably more difficult by ADHD.
Commonly prescribed drugs can also add to the burden.
In fact, the drug of choice for treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in teenagers has already caused a number of kids to commit suicide.
If a teen suffers from bouts of depression and they are given this drug, there is a very real risk of suicide.
For this reason, the manufacturer of the drug is required to mention this on the data sheet, and the packaging also has to display an FDA Black Box Warning.
If you have a teen with ADHD, please monitor him or her very closely for signs of depression, especially if they are taking prescription meds.
