Top 5 Effective Ways to Handle Social Anxiety

Do you feel butterflies in your stomach, tingling of fingers and having cold sweat whenever people would approach you and say "hi"? Do you constantly experience palpitations, difficulty in breathing or that you just came out of a race every time you are in a crowded place or a social gathering?

Do you feel like everyone is staring and that one wrong move would cause major embarrassment? If you said "YES" to all these questions, then you probably have "Social Anxiety" problems.

Social anxiety, as many would call, it is defined as something negative you feel about yourself when placed in a position you are not prepared for. It's an abnormal situation. People with this condition can be defined as someone who lacks the right level of self-confidence or self-esteem.

But you need not worry. There are actually effective ways you can use so you can get rid of this "social-anxiety" that haunts you like darkness that creeps through the night. The very first thing that you should do is to practice being calm. Relax a bit.

Whenever you attend an upcoming party, picture yourself in the room mingling with the people around having fun and sharing each other's stories. If you keep on doing this every time you attend a party, the good things you imagine will be mimicked by your body. After some time, you are not imagining anymore; instead you are actually at the party enjoying the moment with your friends.

The next way is to remove the negative thoughts. Instead of worrying on the awful things that might happen, you should focus on the good things such as seeing your friends and being able to chat with them. It is that fear that you have instilled in your mind that hinders you from having fun and would cause the exacerbation of the negative feelings you have.

It is best that you remove that fear. Always remember, unless you do it, you will never know that you can.

Third is to divert your attention. Do not put yourself down. Criticizing yourself will not bring you anything good. Like when you continuously ask yourself if you blend in with the crowd; if the people around like your dress or the way you look.

Do not question yourself. Take all that "what ifs" and throw it all away. You should focus on the event, the upcoming moments and the people around you.

Fourth, use your mind in a positive way. Your mind can actually make or break you, so it is best if you maintain a positive attitude. When you are engaged in a conversation with an acquaintance, make sure to focus your attention on him and not on yourself.

Just think that this person in front of you is not an acquaintance. Think of him as an old friend that you are having a conversation with. Then everything will flow naturally.

Lastly, you should never forget who you are. It is not right that you would be utterly over confident. This may even cause the people around you to make negative comments and that is the last thing you want for yourself.

Nevertheless, these are merely tips for you to handle your social anxiety problems. However, it is still your choice if you would want to stay as the person who stands at the corner of the room or one who remains in the middle talking to different people and having fun.
