- 1). Remove a 1/2-inch to 1-inch section of the plastic shielding on the end of each wire on both the wiring harness itself and the head unit that the wiring harness will connect to. To remove the shielding, place the ends of each wire into the 18-gauge slot of a pair of wire strippers and pull the wire strippers toward the end of the the wire. This will reveal the bare electrical wire underneath the shielding.
- 2). Connect the wiring harness electrical wires to the head unit electrical wires by twisting the exposed sections of wiring together. Use the wiring guides from both devices to make sure you connect the correct wires. Each wire from both devices controls one function, so simply connect wires that have the same function together.
- 3). Solder the electrical connections that you made in Step 2 using a soldering gun. Warm up the soldering gun, then touch the tip of the gun to the electrical connections and slowly move it back and forth to melt the wires together and form a stronger connection.
- 4). Wrap each soldered electrical connection with electrical tape to shield the wiring. Be sure to fully wrap each connection. Do not leave any section of bare electrical wire exposed.
