- 1). Disconnect the battery's negative cable, if it is not already disconnected, loosening the cable clamp nut with a wrench.
- 2). Connect the wiring harness from the vehicle to the radio's connector port and then proceed to Step 6. The vehicle's connector will fit if you are installing the stock radio. Use an adapter plug or proceed to Step 3 if the connector won't fit.
- 3). Cut off the car's wiring harness with wire cutters, if you must use the harness that comes with an aftermarket radio. Strip an inch of insulation from each wire and connect the wires by crimping (step 4) or soldering (Step 5), as you prefer.
- 4). Twist the bare leads of the color-coordinated wires together, fit a crimping cap on the connected leads and clamp a crimping tool on the cap to tighten it against the wires.
- 5). Touch the wire's bare leads together, place solder on the wire and heat the wire with a soldering iron, making sure the iron doesn't touch the solder. Cover the bare wires with heat-shrink tubing and a heat gun.
- 6). Insert the radio and its mounting bracket within the instrument panel and apply the fasteners. The TrailBlazer usually takes three mounting screws that require a small wrench or screwdriver.
- 7). Connect the vehicle's accessory trim plate over the instrument panel, clipping it in place and applying its mounting nuts with a wrench.
- 8). Connect the insulator panel to the instrument panel with its mounting screws and a screwdriver. On some models, you also need to install the center console with its screws.
- 9). Reconnect the battery cable.
