Each year, more and more companies begin producing and manufacturing multiple lines of cell phones for their consumers. There are so many brands vying for your business that, when researched properly, you should be able to get a really great product at a very affordable cost.
Towards the end of last year (2008), IDC released their annual report revealing the top 5 cell phone manufacturers of the year. Some of the information in the report is somewhat surprising but it was especially interesting to see which cell phone brands had increased (and decreased) their share in the market.
Snapshot of the Report:
The report released by IDC contained a lot of valuable information for consumers. It slotted Nokia at the No. 1 spot on the list with a whopping 39.4% of the market share. Other popular brands like Samsung and LG increased their market value from 2007 to 2008 with LG gaining 0.1% (to land at 7.7% of the market) and Samsung increasing 2.6% (landing at 17.3% of the market share).
But not all cell phone manufacturers saw such a positive return from 2007 to 2008. Motorola decreased its market share over the course of the year, falling from 12.8% in 2007 to 8.6% in 2008.
Remaining fairly consistent was Sony Ericsson at 8.6% market share in 2008.
Predictions for 2009:
Predictions for 2009 vary significantly depending on who you're talking to. Many believe that Nokia will continue to lead significantly while others are convinced that Samsung will begin to rival Nokia in the early months of 2009.
Other Top Cell Phone Brands:
Consumers researching to find the perfect cell phone brand will quickly realize that the top 5 brands listed above are not the only choices when it comes to mobile products. Other top brands include Audiovox, Sanyo, Sony, Kyocera and more.
If you're seriously considering getting a cell phone or switching the one you currently have, we suggest you do your research. The more you learn about the brands, the more familiar you'll be with which brand is best at suiting your needs. Luckily, there are several websites featuring cell phone reviews to help you make your decision.
