- 1). Clear the floor where you want to assemble your futon. Assemble the futon near where you want to place it. It is far easier to move a fully assembled futon a few feet rather than through multiple rooms.
- 2). Separate the arm frames far enough to place the back and front of the futon between them, approximately 6 feet. Lay the seat and back of mattress frame so that the pre-drilled holes align.
- 3). Attach the frames together using the included clevis and cotter pins included at each hinge point. Make sure the arms are still on either side of the frames. Clevis and cotter pins resemble thin metal pin hooks and they attach to the frames by sliding through the pre-drilled holes of the futon frame.
- 4). Connect the two arms to the futon frame by sliding the stretcher or front rail, into position. Screw the arm rail into place, but do not tighten completely. Align the sliders attached to the back rail with the grooves on the inside of the arm rail. The top sliders run vertically and the bottoms sliders run horizontally.
- 5). Check to make sure the seat is facing downward and that the screws attaching the frames to the arm rails are not bending under the weight of the futon.
- 6). Tighten the screws attached to the stretchers using the Allen key. Use caution, over-tightening can damage the stretcher and the futon will not easily swing from couch to bed position.
- 7). Attach any additional components provided by the manufacturer as directed. Fold the metal frame into an upright position and place mattress on the frame to begin using your new, durable addition.
