- 1). Remove the hinge from the door by unscrewing it.
- 2). Take the hinge apart by pulling the pin out of the center.
- 3). Clean the pin by rubbing it with steel wool to remove dirt and rust.
- 4). Rub a bar of soap on the pin. Use a natural soap, such as Castile soap, if desired.
- 5). Add a few drops of vegetable oil along the pin. Vegetable oil doesn't last as long as synthetic oil, so you may need to reapply it if the door starts squeaking again. You do not need to remove the hinge to reapply the oil.
- 6). Reinstall the hinge and swing the door open and closed a few times to work the oil around the pin. Make sure all the screws are tightly secured or they can cause squeaking.
