Kinds of Covers for Hot Tubs

    Foam Spa Covers

    • Foam is a common material for hot tub covers. The rigid material insulates the spa and keeps the water warm under the cap. Insulating materials can help homeowners reduce the energy costs of heating spa water. Foam spa covers can saturate with water and become heavy and difficult to remove. A saturated hot tub cover can break, requiring the homeowner to replace the cap. Rigid foam hot tub covers that do not sit on top of the water limit the insulating effect of the material.

    Rolling Covers

    • Rolling hot tub covers offer a convenient method for removing the cap from the spa. The material rolls off the spa, allowing homeowners to avoid lifting a heavy cover from the hot tub. Some rolling spa covers also include a lock to prevent children from removing the hot tub cover without parental guidance.

    Fabric

    • Heavy-duty fabric can also cover a hot tub and keep it clean and free of debris. Fabric spa covers are lighter weight for easy removal by homeowners. A homeowner can keep the material clean with spot cleaning or washing with a mild detergent. A fabric hot tub cover will not protect the spa from heavy weight such as snow, animals or falling tree limbs.

    Aluminum

    • Aluminum hot tub covers are a heavy-duty choice for homeowners. The material can withstand heavy weight such as snow or animals. Aluminum hot tub covers fit around the top of the hot tub with a rubber gasket that seals the heat in and keeps debris and animals out. Aluminum provides a strong barrier to protect the hot tub in harsh conditions.
